Biography
Dr. Craig OBAFEMI began his studies of chemistry at the University of Ibadan in 1971. In 1974, he received the B.Sc. (Hons.) degree, M. Phil. Degree in 1978 from the University of Ife and in 1981 the Ph.D. degree at the University of Saskatchewan under the supervision of Professor Choi Chuck Lee. The title of his thesis was: “Rearrangement studies with trianisylvinyl and 1,2-dianisyl-2-phenylvinyl cations”. He was also a postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Saskatchewan in 1981.
In 1982 he was appointed Lecturer I in Organic Chemistry at the University of Ife. He was a recipient of the International Tin Research Institute Research Fellowship, UXBRIDGE, LONDON (1991) and the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship at the University of Konstanz. Germany with Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Wolfgang Pfleiderer (1991-1993). He was appointed Full Professor in Organic Chemistry at the Obafemi Awolowo University, effective October,1992, and has remained in this position until date. He was the Managing Editor, Ife Journal of Science (2006 to 2010). Dr. Obafemi and his group are involved in the design, synthesis and evaluation of biologically active agents (antimicrobial, antioxidant, antipyretic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, neuropharmacological and cytotoxic effects) and isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds from plant resources.
